
MUDr. Kateřina Cajthamlová (63 years old, two adult children, divorced, recently retired but still working), a graduate of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University (1980–1986), obtained her specialisation in internal medicine in 1989. She worked for twenty years as an internist (private practice until 2010) and has been working for nearly a quarter of a century as a systemic psychotherapist (trained at the ISZ institute, 2004–2008).
She is a member of the Czech Medical Chamber (continuing education diploma) and the Czech Association of Psychotherapists (certified psychotherapist in the VZP Mental Health Care programme), and a member of Einstein's Society of Mensa CR. She has held a driving licence since the age of sixteen (first for a motorbike, then for a car), enjoys dancing, cycling and canoeing, and is a passionate reader (and creator) of prose and poetry; in her youth she practised judo for six years.
In addition to her private psychotherapy practice, she lectures for members of the Czech Medical Chamber and the Czech Pharmaceutical Chamber and for a number of other organisations including RFE/RL and the Prague University of Economics and Business (since 2007). She leads psychotherapy sessions and behavioural training in therapeutic contexts for social workers and staff of senior care homes and hospice services (since 2012).
She is well known to Czech viewers from the TV Prima programme You Are What You Eat (broadcast 2005–2012 and recently in rerun) and from Czech Television's DoktorKA programme (2014–2016), and to Radio Region listeners from the programme Lose Weight Healthily with Kateřina Cajthamlová (broadcast 2007–2023) and from Radio Střední Čechy – nationwide broadcast – Cheerfully and Healthily (from 2023 to the present). She has thus been addressing questions of healthy lifestyle and psychological wellbeing for twenty years.
She is the author and co-author of several books for the general public (2013 – Prof. Rajko Doleček, doc. Leoš Středa and Kateřina Cajthamlová: The Dangerous World of Calories from the Perspective of Three Physicians; 2014 – with Jitka Hinková: Read Fairy Tales, Read Between the Lines; 2017 – solo: The ABC of the Modern Parent and 50 Years of Poetry – 2025; 2022 – with Lucie Šilhová: Miracles Are Logical), and the author of several chapters in the VŠE textbook Manual of Personal Development. She speaks fluent Czech, English, Russian and Slovak.
